Paper Ephemera: Blank application for insurance against loss or damage by fire, Reaper City Insurance Co., of Rockford, Illinois. Approx. circa 1860's-70's. 17" x 11" (Name of insurance company may be of some interest to trivia buffs. Rockford was the site of a famous patent law suit over the invention of the reaper. John Manny of Rockford had invented a reaper before Cyrus McCormick and sued McCormick. Manny actually won the legal battle through his capable young lawyer, Mr. Abraham Lincoln although McCormick got the fame!) Anyway, this is a rather interesting application with attached receipt. $8.00

Court cases by county and Habeus Corpus. State of Maryland vs. "X", "Orphans Court of Carroll County vs. citation," etc. In some cases lists witnesses to testify by name, and jury members by name. 440p book. Approx. 125 pages used with the old fashioned fancy script writing. Cover appears to have gotten dampness at some time but still in very good conditon. Inside is fine. $60.00

These letters are mostly from 1892 to 1906 dealing primarilly with valuations and taxes on rights across the entire state of Kansas. Mostly done in pen and ink with some great letterheads showing county courthouses of the era. Includes correspondence from the following Kansas towns & cities: Abilene, Howard, Lymdon, Eureka, Winfield, Wellington, Yates Center, Anthony, Paola, Olathe, Burlington, Fredonia, Garnett, Wallisville, Minneapolis, Cottonwood Falls, Leavenworth, Ottawa, Topeka, Erie, Wichita, Atchison, Syracuse, and Ness City. All letters are in plastic binders. Unfortunately, at some point they were probably in a notebook (3-hole punch) and many of the letters have hole marks in their margin, usually not affecting the copy. A total of 26 letters. $50.00

Paper Ephemera: Misc. samples of day to day records from the Helen Hayes estate, from the home of Helen Hayes MacArthur and Charles MacArthur in Nyack, NY. These may be anything from receipts from Saks Fifth Avenue to the local Nyack fish market, from a telephone bill to the monthly accounting from their chauffeur (or a garage bill on their LaSalle automobile). Most of them are prominently identified with Helen Hayes or Charles MacArthur by name. All relate to the era from the late 1930s to the early 1940s while they were both very much in high profile lives. The composite shows a broad cross-section of elegant living in an orderly household, but unusual household. 20 pieces for $15.00
